I grew up listening to Whitney Houston. Every time I would hear “Greatest Love of All”, “I Will Always Love You”, “I Have Nothing”, and “One Moment in Time”, I’d stop and just listen — which, trust me, wasn’t easy. As a child, I was considerably restless and energetic. In singing contests in elementary school, during the different rounds, I’d always sing at least one Whitney Houston song. My favorite had always been “One Moment in Time” coz I thought it was befitting to sing in competitions.
It wasn’t until I had grown up and really understood the messages within the songs that I was able to appreciate her voice and her singing in a whole new level. Her voice was filled with emotions. Even after all these years, there is still no comparison to the magic Whitney Houston’s voice brings.
The news of her death stunned me. I never thought I’d feel sad for a stranger’s death — a person I don’t personally know. But Ms. Houston’s music is a big part of my life — yes, I still listen to her songs. The news of her passing makes me feel as if someone BIG and influential and amazing is forever gone.
Whitney Houston: After all the trials and heartaches you’ve experienced in this world, I hope you’re finding heaven a much happier place. Heaven’s choir must be ecstatic to have you.
To the woman who had inspired numerous of today’s artists and singers,
The woman who had been aptly dubbed as “The Voice”:
May you rest in peace.
